I run every day and never knew what to wear, so I built a weather app

I run almost every day. And a daily runner’s real question is not “should I run” but “what do I wear.”

Twelve degrees out. Short sleeves and the first kilometer is cold; long sleeves and kilometer three is hot. Wind changes the feel again, rain might come, the air might be bad. Checking the weather before a run is not about sun versus clouds — it is about combining all these variables in your head to pick an outfit and a start time.

Plenty of weather apps, none answering the runner’s question

Existing weather apps have all the data: temperature, rain odds, wind, humidity, air quality. What I wanted was not data but a verdict: whether now is fine, which hour today is best, what to wear out the door. Nothing answered those three directly, so before every run I hopped between a weather app and an air-quality app and did the math myself.

One score, one character

So I built it. RunWeather scores the next 24 hours for running — temperature, rain, air quality, humidity, wind — and points at the best hour. Outfit picks cover top, bottom, and extras from feels-like temperature and wind, and instead of text alone, a character walks out wearing the outfit. Open the app, glance at the character, and you know whether to go and what to put on.

The character’s design motif is my wife.

Since it is an app you check often, widgets got real attention. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the score and the essentials without opening the app.

In Korea the score weighs five signals, air quality included, on KMA and AirKorea data; elsewhere it runs on Apple Weather data with four. It is free, and there is no account.

Grab it from the intro page or the App Store.

Dollim, Memento, RunWeather, Qpeat — all four started as my own needs. Once built, it turned out people like me existed, so I polished them up and shipped. Tomorrow morning I will head out in whatever the app tells me to wear.
